Quote

When we learn to read the story of Jesus and see it as the story of the love of God, doing for us what we could not do for ourselves — that insight produces, again and again, a sense of astonished gratitude which is very near the heart of authentic Christian experience.

— N.T. Wright

Description

Your calling is a response by your total self.

For Apprentices vocation is the response they have with their total selves to the call of God. They acknowledge God’s call to partnership. Vocation thus refers to the orchestration of their leisure, their relationships, their work, their private lives, their public lives, and the resources they steward. It is the focusing of their lives in the service and love of everything.

You can be experienced as subversive by the powers that be.

They may be experienced as subversive to formal structures which sustain corporate survival, security and significance. They may even be sidelined or pursued by those they are trying to change. They are usually more honoured after they are gone than during their presence.

Your hunches help you make sense of the world.

They have hunches or intuitions about people, places, things, or situations that are uncannily accurate, even though they have limited content to support these insights. They often project onto new people, things, or situations their understanding of previously encountered people, things, or events that they perceive as similar. They do this projection to help them make sense of their world and life.

You view all people as part of a universal community.

Apprentices treat any person with compassion as they view people as from a universal community, and should be treated with universal principles of love and justice. A vision of the Kingdom of God breaking into everyday reality frees Apprentices to be both radically detached from self and passionately committed to living a life of self-sacrificing love. These selfless lives are marked by universal values like truth, justice and love. Apprentices are devoted to overcoming division, oppression and violence of every kind. Apprentices have a deep transpersonal connection with God. This awareness of God’s presence leads to an enduring conviction that all will be well because God wills it.
